Ganderbal, Sep 15 (KNO): A massive cleanliness drive was carried out at Vishansar Lake in Sonamarg on Sunday, led by Block Development Officer (BDO) Gund, Sheikh Arif (JKAS), along with his team and field staff.
Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the drive was aimed at preserving the pristine beauty of Vishansar Lake and its adjoining areas by removing garbage and plastic waste left behind by visitors and trekkers.
BDO Gund Sheikh Arif said, “Vishansar is one of Kashmir’s most iconic alpine lakes and it is our collective responsibility to protect it from pollution. Through this drive, we want to send out a strong message that safeguarding our natural treasures is not just the duty of the administration but of every citizen and visitor.”
He further appealed to trekkers and tourists to avoid littering and adopt eco-friendly practices while visiting high-altitude lakes. “These lakes are the lifeline of our ecology. Keeping them clean ensures that future generations can also experience their beauty in its purest form,” Arif added.
Locals and volunteers, who joined the drive, appreciated the initiative. A local participant said, “Such drives not only clean the area but also raise awareness among people about the importance of maintaining cleanliness in ecologically fragile zones—(KNO)
